Nothing reflects fairness more than believing that every child deserves a high-quality education, no matter where they live or how much their family earns. Decades of underfunding have left public schools struggling to meet the needs of their students while elite private schools enjoy taxpayer-funded luxuries.
Public schools in Wills have been chronically underfunded for decades. Schools like Glenroy and John Fawkner Colleges have been underfunded by an estimated $4,000 per student per year.
Unlike Labor and the Liberals, who have failed to address the growing inequity in education, the Greens are committed to fully funding public schools.
We’re fighting to fully-fund schools to 100% of the school resourcing standard by 2026. We are also pushing for millions in additional funding for critical infrastructure for local schools so they have shaded outdoor areas, safe buildings and more.
What does this mean for your school? An extra $30 million a year from next year to be invested in the primary and secondary schools in Wills, including:
- $4,000 per student per year extra for John Fawkner College
- $4,000 per student per year for Glenroy College
- $2,900 per student per year for Pascoe Vale Girls College
- $2,500 per student per year for Coburg High School
- $2,700 per student per year for Brunswick College
- An average $2,640 per student per year for all primary schools in the area
Fully funding our schools will mean more subjects, better student and teacher support, and high performing local public schools.
We will also push for an extra $15 million for public school upgrades. For example:
- Upgraded area & new admin building for Pascoe Vale South Primary school
- New toilets for Moomba Park Primary School
- Upgrade the outdoor area for Merri-bek Primary
- New library for John fawkner College and compete their building works
- Push for Coburg High and Glenroy College to get their master plans funded
